The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the nation’s leading Hispanic educational organization; Members of the U.S. Congress, Housing Industry Leaders, and National Housing Advocates.

WHAT:

CHCI will officially launch its two-year, bi-partisan program to address the homeownership gap among Hispanics. The Census Bureau indicates 14-16 million new households by 2010 of which two-thirds will be minority households. If significant efforts are not made today to address this gap, the 48% Hispanic homeownership rate (compared to the overall U.S. rate of 68%) could look dramatically worse by the end of the decade.

CHCI’s National Housing Initiative, in partnership with Fannie Mae, lenders, realtors, and community organizations, will work in 63 congressional districts with a 25 percent or more Hispanic population to develop and implement homeownership opportunities.

WHERE:

Cannon House Office Building Terrace

Capitol Hill
