The Cooper Union School of Art Announces their 2015 Summer Art Intensive

This summer college program for high school students offers intensive art classes in New York City.


NEW YORK, Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Cooper Union School of Art announces the Summer Art Intensive program (cooper.edu/academics/outreach-and-pre-college/summer-art-intensive) running from July 6th to July 30th. This four weeks summer pre-college art program prepares students to apply to the top undergraduate art schools. An open Q&A will be held on February 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., during the Outreach Pre-College Program Winter student exhibition, at the Foundation Building, 2nd floor, located at 7 East 7th St. in the heart of New York City.

Participants in the upcoming Summer Art Intensive select a studio concentration, including animation, photography and graphic design, supported with additional intensive drawing instruction and the study of contemporary art issues. The curriculum is designed for portfolio preparation and is taught by a specialized faculty of working artists. The program includes visits to major museums and gallery districts, engaging students with the vast cultural resources of New York City. Guest artists in residence will offer a close-up view of a professional practice in action. The Cooper Union Summer Art Intensive culminates with a student exhibition, a publication of art and writings, and a public animation screening with a reception in Cooper’s Great Hall.

The Cooper Union also offers four artist residencies within the Summer Art Intensive program. The fellowships are given to outstanding visual artists who will spend the of month of July on-campus developing a new project in the painting and drawing studios. The residency provides spacious, sky-lit professional spaces, and an exhibition honoring the residents’ work. This year’s residents will be announced during the February 10th event.

Applications for the 2015 Summer Art Intensive program will be available online on February 10th.
