HOUSTON, TX–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–June 11, 2003–AeroMexico, Mexico’s largest airline, announced today that it will begin service from Fort Lauderdale to Mexico City. AeroMexico will operate four flights weekly from Fort Lauderdale – its newest (17th) U.S. gateway — to Mexico City. The new nonstop service will begin on July 7.

AeroMexico becomes the first carrier to provide transborder service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Mexico. The airline will add service from Fort Lauderdale due to the expanding business, leisure and ethnic markets north of Miami and their increasing demand for travel to Mexico from a more convenient gateway.

“We have monitored the growth of the international and Latin American market in Broward County and neighboring Palm Beach County and believe the area is ready for us to introduce direct service into Mexico,” said Rolf Hoehn, Vice President, U.S. Division, AeroMexico. “AeroMexico welcomes the opportunity to give passengers the chance to experience our airline. We strive to be customer-service focused, providing a superior product and the most pleasurable travel experience possible. We look forward to serving the needs of Mexico-bound leisure, business and ethnic travelers seeking greater convenience and the choice of traveling from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.”

“The new AeroMexico air service is another example of how Broward County is attracting more and more international travelers; for business as well as leisure. Mexico City is a beautiful, cosmopolitan city and we are looking forward to welcoming the first visitors on July 7,” said Diana Wasserman-Rubin, Broward County Mayor (District Eight).

“We are very excited about the new air service to Greater Fort Lauderdale from Mexico City,” said Nicki E. Grossman, President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Greater Fort Lauderdale is a diverse international destination. The addition of the new AeroMexico service shows that both business and leisure travelers recognize that,” she added.

“We are very proud to have this fine air carrier serve the Greater Fort Lauderdale community. This new service will provide the opportunity for leisure travelers to enjoy the beautiful country of Mexico and offer the business community the economic benefits of a direct trade route,” stated Aviation Director William F. Sherry. “In addition, the Mexican population is the 4th largest Hispanic group in Broward County. Service to Mexico City will provide them with a convenient means of travel to their homeland. We are very excited about this new service and welcome AeroMexico to our growing list of international airlines.”
