Camarillo, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–May 23, 2005–Blue Cross of California (Blue Cross) today announced that the California Department of Health Services issued its intent to award Blue Cross a contract to provide Medi-Cal benefits to eligible beneficiaries throughout the Southern California counties of San Bernardino and Riverside. In addition to serving Medi-Cal members in other counties, Blue Cross is renewing its contract in the Bay Area counties and will become one of two Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) offered to Inland Empire Medi-Cal members, replacing the current health plan, Molina Health Care, Inc.

“Our Medi-Cal HMO programs provide an array of health services to our members,” said John Monahan, president of State Sponsored Business for Blue Cross. “They enhance access, emphasize prevention, improve quality of care, and provide health education to members. We are pleased to bring our service expertise and resources to Medi-Cal beneficiaries residing in these counties.”

In support of Blue Cross’ commitment to increasing access to health care services, State Sponsored Business has also established Community Resource Centers (CRCs) in counties where it currently serves Medi-Cal members. These CRCs offer outreach and onsite enrollment assistance, as well as a broad spectrum of health information and special services. Local Blue Cross quality management, member, physician and hospital liaisons, capable of assisting local communities in the languages they speak, staff each CRC.

Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid health care program, which pays for a variety of medical services for qualified individuals and families with limited financial resources. This is one of the health care options available to uninsured Californians, subject to Medi-Cal eligibility requirements.
