Washington, D.C. –(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–July 24, 2003–Burger King Corporation announces its official entertainment sponsorship of CATALINA magazine’s national Empowering Latinas Tour. Jorge Moreno, 2002 Latin Grammy award winner, joins the tour, bringing his fusion of Latin flair and American rhythms to thousands of Latinas throughout the nation. An American Grammy nominee this year, Moreno signed on as the tour’s exclusive entertainment as part of Burger King Corporation’s nationwide documentary tour celebrating cultural diversity in the U.S.

Moreno, one of the primary hosts in Burger King Corporation’s documentary, will perform as the exclusive entertainer at CATALINA’s last three tour stops in 2003, including a Hispanic Heritage Month event in The National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on September 22. In addition to the event in Washington, DC, Catalina will hold a Hispanic Heritage Month event in Chicago on October 2, and a half-day event in San Diego on October 28.

Celebrity speakers who have joined CATALINA events include Actor Cheech Marin, Actress Elizabeth Peña, Monday Night Football’s Lisa Guerrero, TV Journalist/Celeb Giselle Fernandez, Former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin; and Former Deputy Assistant for Public Affairs, for the US Department of State, Lula Rodriguez.

“Burger King Corporation recognizes the importance of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Participation in the CATALINA events gives BKC the opportunity to continue to expand our ongoing efforts to present our Latin Music documentary and other music education initiatives to the public,” said Grant Walker, director, ethnic marketing, sponsorships and alliances.

Besides performing, Jorge Moreno will introduce CATALINA event attendees to Burger King Corporation’s “We Sing En Español…And English Too” — a first-of-its-kind educational documentary featuring both legendary and up-and-coming artists who have contributed to Latin music traditions in America. The piece is a compilation of original interviews and archival footage of Latin musicians from every genre in the wide music spectrum. “As a Cuban-American, I grew up surrounded by Latin and American musical influences,” Moreno said. “Being a part of Burger King Corporation’s [documentary] is a way I can share my passion for the legendary music that had such a profound influence on me.”

“We are thrilled to bring Jorge Moreno’s music, and Burger King’s message, to CATALINA readers and event attendees,” says CATALINA publisher Cathy Areu Jones. “I know that the Hispanic community is grateful that Burger King corporation values and promotes our culture.”

Moreno, and other celebrity speakers, are available for interviews the day before and the day of each CATALINA event.
