IRVINE, Calif.–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. 21, 2003–On the horizon of the historic California Governor recall election, Taco Bell Corp. is making matters deliciously predictable. The Company today launched the Taco Poll, asking Californians of all ages to “put their vote where their mouth is” for their favorite gubernatorial candidate, simply by purchasing selected Taco Bell(R) menu items. A crunchy beef taco will count as one vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger, a soft chicken taco will count as a vote for not recalling Gov. Gray Davis, and any Grilled Stuft Burrito will show support for any of the other 134 candidates. Taco Poll results will be tallied from more than 1,000 participating California Taco Bell(R) restaurants and released weekly on every Tuesday until the official election.
“Our Taco Poll gives Californians a fun and `outside the bun’ way to cast their vote for governor before the election happens,” said Greg Creed, chief marketing officer, Taco Bell Corp. “We think it’s an innovative way to remind California voters to get out to the polls by putting their vote where their mouth is.”
Taco Bell announced the Taco Poll with full-page advertisements in the Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times today, with the headline “Who says you can’t buy votes?” Additionally, the Irvine-based company will distribute flyers in more than 1,000 California restaurants encouraging customers to participate in both the Taco Poll and election. Customers can “think outside the bun” and vote at participating Taco Bell restaurants in California through the day before the election. Voters can monitor the Taco Poll results online at http://www.tacobell.com. To ensure fairness to all candidates, product results will be calculated based on the incremental number of items sold.
