Celebra Hispanic Health Campaign Stops In Miami; Provides Free Medical Screenings for Hispanics

Presents new exhibit to educate Latinas on HPV and Cervicalcancer

The national Hispanic health campaign, “Celebra La Vida Con Salud” (Celebrate A Healthy Life) brings its health festival to Miami this weekend to provide health information and offer festival participants free medical screenings for HIV/AIDS, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and BMI.

Celebra equips Hispanics with information on illness prevention and health promotion for illnesses disproportionately impacting the Hispanic community.

At the Miami festival, Celebra will present a new in-depth exhibit on HPV and cervical cancer education to educate Latinos about prevention and treatment of these illnesses. . The rate of cervical cancer is approximately 50% higher among Hispanic women than among non-Hispanic white women in the United States.

WHY:

Hispanics have disproportionately high rates of several major illnesses and diseases, including HIV/AIDS, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and obesity, as well as and some types of cancers, including cervical cancer.

The Celebra health festival addresses these health issues and provides information about national and local consumer resources available to Hispanics in Miami. Private, public sector, media and community-based partners and sponsors join together to reach this important population with key health messages. Partners and sponsors include the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, the Office of Civil Rights, Merck & Co., Inc, CardioChek and Nike.
