NEW YORK–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 27, 2002–Arista recording artist Carlos Santana makes his eagerly-anticipated return to the charts with SHAMAN, his second album for the label, heralded by the brand new single “The Game Of Love,” featuring multi-platinum singer Michelle Branch, the powerful #1 most-added track this week across the board at top 40 radio (with 125 stations), Hot AC (78 stations), and Mainstream AC (38 stations), it was announced today by Antonio “L.A.” Reid, President and CEO, Arista Records, who also serves as executive producer of the new album.

SHAMAN is scheduled to arrive in stores on October 22nd.

“The artistry of Carlos Santana has captured millions around the world for many years and he continues his musical and spiritual journey with his new masterpiece, SHAMAN,” says Reid. “Carlos has created some of the most beautiful and stirring instrumentals combined with refreshing, contemporary artist collaborations. We are off to an incredible start with the first single “The Game of Love,” which is poised to become a worldwide hit.”

“The Game Of Love” arrives three years and three months after the release of the most phenomenal album of Santana’s career, Supernatural – which generated an all-time record-breaking nine Grammy awards, spent 102 weeks on the Billboard 200 Album chart (including 12 weeks at #1), produced back-to-back #1 platinum hits with “Smooth” and “Maria Maria,” and has sold an astonishing 25 million albums worldwide.

The video for “The Game Of Love” was shot on location in Chicago by director by Paul Fedor (credits: Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle,” P.O.D.’s “The Youth of a Nation,” Adema’s “Giving In”) and is already getting massive airplay on MTV and VH1.

“The Game Of Love” breathlessly raises the curtain on SHAMAN, produced by Carlos Santana and Clive Davis and executive produced by Antonio “L.A.” Reid. Like Supernatural, the new album is again (in the words of Carlos Santana) a “multi-dimensional” collection, bridging generations and cultures in a musical melting pot of creative partnerships. In addition to Branch, Santana was joined in the studio by fellow Arista artist Dido (“Feels Like Fire”), Citizen Cope (“Sideways”), Placido Domingo (“Novus”), Macy Gray (“Amore’ (Sexo)”), Melkie Jean & Governor Washington (“Since Supernatural”), Chad Kroeger (“Why Don’t You & I”), Alejandro Lerner (“Hoy Es Adios”), Musiq (“Nothing At All”), Ozomatli (“One Of These Days”), P.O.D. (“America”), and Seal (“You Are My Kind”). The Santana band takes the helm on “Adouma,” “Foo Foo,” “Victory Is One,” and “Aye Aye Aye” (a reunion with original `first generation’ Santana drummer Michael

Shrieve).

A recording industry landmark that has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide since it arrived in U.S. stores on June 15, 1999, Supernatural featured collaborations with Cee-Lo from Goodie Mob, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Eric Clapton, the Dust Brothers, Everlast, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Mana, Dave Matthews, KC Porter, the Product G&B, and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty. “Smooth” (featuring Rob Thomas) and “Maria Maria” (featuring the Product G&B) were the Hot 100’s longest-running #1 singles of 1999 and 2000, at 12 weeks and 10 weeks respectively.

Supernatural generated Grammy awards at the 2000 ceremonies in the categories of Album Of the Year and Best Rock Album, as well as Record Of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Collaboration for “Smooth.” Grammy success also extended to Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group (for “Maria Maria”); Best Pop Instrumental Performance (for “El Farol”); Best Rock Performance by a Duo/Group (for “Put Your Lights On” featuring Everlast); and Best Rock Instrumental Performance (for “The Calling” featuring Eric Clapton).

Later on September 13th, at the first annual Latin Grammy Awards, the album generated another three honors, as “Corazon Espinado” (with Mexican supergroup Mana) won Record Of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo/Group; while “El Farol” won for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

The day before the Latin Grammy Awards marked the in-store arrival of the interactive DVD-only Supernatural Live – An Evening with Carlos Santana and Friends, which went on to debut at #1 on Billboard’s Top Video Sales and DVD Sales charts and earn RIAA double-platinum certification. A reprise of the May 31st concert event at Pasadena Civic Center (originally broadcast on the Fox tv network), the home video starred the Santana band and guests Cee-Lo, Everlast, Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews and Carter Beauford, Sarah McLachlan (a showstopping duet with Carlos on her top 5 hit “Angel”), the Product G&B, Wayne Shorter, and Rob Thomas. The full-length concert was complemented by 55 minutes of additional interactive content, including video clips, an interview with (and biography of) Carlos Santana; behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage; fan club information and more. The DVD boasted DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.
