Gala Dinner to Recognize Lifetime Achievements of Army Retired General Officer

San Francisco, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–August 8, 2005–The 14th annual celebration of HISPANIC Magazine’s Achievement Awards will honor U.S. Army Major General (Ret.) Félix A. Santoni at a black-tie dinner to be celebrated at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel on August 18th, 2005.

A native of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Santoni graduated in 1955 from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania, and was commissioned through ROTC as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. He served for 40 years in the U.S. Army; his last assignment being that of Deputy Commander-in-Chief for mobilization and Reserve Affairs, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), headquartered at Quarry Heights, Panamá. On 20 August 2002, he was appointed Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Puerto Rico.

His illustrious career includes senior positions in various national defense institutions, including assignments with the Puerto Rico National Guard, the 1495th National Wartime Information Security, and Deputy Commander of the 7581st U.S. Army Garrison. In addition to his undergraduate degree, Santoni is also a graduate of the Army’s Intelligence Familiarization Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the National Security Program at the John F. Kennedy School, Harvard University.

“I am humbled by this nomination and proud of my service in the Army. Aside from the tremendous career and educational opportunities I received during my years of service, the Army provided me with a unique platform to serve my country,” Santoni recently said.

Created in 1991, the Achievement Awards dinner annually showcases Hispanics whose accomplishments in the areas of entrepreneurship, youth, community development, education and leadership, among others, exemplify the best qualities and contributions made daily by Latinos to American culture and society. Past honorees include actor Anthony Quinn, politician Henry Cisneros, performer Gloria Estefan and human rights activist Dolores Huerta.

The Dinner Gala, which will take place at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel (950 Mason St., (415) 772-5000) from 7 to 10 p.m. on August 18, will also gather more than 200 national Hispanic leaders from all walks of life.
