CENTRO Tampa and Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. Kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month at Sept. 10th Event


TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — CENTRO Tampa’s 6th annual Festival del SABOR and Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc.’s official kick-off celebration will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Centennial Park in historic Ybor City from Noon until 5:00 p.m.. The event will mark THHI’s 32nd anniversary whose main objective is to preserve and promote the Hispanic culture in Tampa Bay. This event will also mark CENTRO Tampa’s 6th anniversary as the leading Spanish-language newspaper in the area.

The event’s goal is to showcase the SABOR or Flavor of Tampa Bay’s Hispanic culture through food, music, and art. Festival del SABOR will once again feature the popular Latin recipe contest and cook-off to find Tampa Bay’s Best “Arroz con Pollo.” Amateur cooks are encouraged to participate in order to win up to $700 in prizes. Prizes will be awarded for best recipe and most creative recipe. The recipe contest is proudly sponsored by jetBlue and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

This is a family oriented event that engages the community at large to enjoy a day of fun for the entire family. The children’s area will be sponsored again by the local Glazer Children’s Museum. The stage is set to provide local talent an opportunity to perform as in the case of “Danny Lozada” and “The Regio Boyz.” The selection of the 2011 Tampa Hispanic Heritage Cultural Ambassador will also take place during the popular kick-off celebration and is sponsored one more time by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.

The Tampa Hispanic Heritage official kick-off at CENTRO’s Festival del SABOR will be hosted by the Ybor City Saturday Market and co-produced by Coda Sound. The main sponsors are McDonald’s and Publix. Gold sponsors include MetLife, Ferman Nissan of Tampa, and Verizon.
