Los Angeles, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–May 10, 2007–Los Angeles Latinos celebrating Cinco de Mayo and representatives from Language Line Services looked on Saturday as Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa broke a giant pinata to commemorate the breaking of down of language barriers for Southern California’s growing population of limited-English speaking Latinos. Mayor Villaraigosa was introducing 1-877-TU-LINEA, Language Line Services’ telephone interpreter service dedicated to Spanish speakers.

“The city of Los Angeles is dedicated to effectively serving each and every one of our residents regardless of language,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “On behalf of our staff, I welcome 1-877-TU-LINEA to our city and look forward to the cultural footprint it will leave in the community.”

Spanish speakers in Southern California will now find it easier to communicate with businesses and independently conduct their day-to-day affairs thanks to 1-877-TU-LINEA, a companion to Your World. Your Language.(SM), the first, free over-the-phone interpretation service launched by Language Line Services and AT&T, Inc., (NYSE:T) in October 2006. By dialing 1-877-TU-LINEA, Spanish speakers can communicate in their own language to a host of local and national banking, insurance, telephone, Internet, utility and entertainment businesses at anytime and at no charge.

“Cinco de Mayo is more than a holiday for Los Angeles, it is a true celebration of the city’s multicultural population and history, which is why Language Line Services chose to launch this beneficial service at ‘Cinco de Mayo at El Pueblo,'” said Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services’ President and Chief Operating Officer.

At the “Cinco de Mayo at El Pueblo” celebration, Language Line Services also presented a $5,000 check to The Central American Resource Center (CARECEN) to demonstrate the company’s continued commitment to the advancement of Hispanics in California and across the U.S.

“We’re always grateful to businesses who are interested in assisting Latinos and Central Americans in need, whether through advocacy, education, or civic participation,” said Victoria Lopez, Senior Development Associate of CARECEN. “We look forward to working with Language Line Services to make sure Latinos in Los Angeles and beyond take advantage of the great benefits provided by 1-877-TU-LINEA.”

The success of Your World. Your Language.(SM) and the increasing number of requests for Spanish-speaking interpreters led to the creation of 1-877-TU-LINEA as an additional method of access to the system.

When Spanish-speaking customers call 1-877-TU-LINEA, they will be greeted in Spanish and then asked to choose their preferred service. A Language Line Services Spanish interpreter will then connect the customer with the requested provider, and service is completed through a three-way conversation. Currently available in California, 1-877-TU- LINEA will be launched nationwide by the end of 2008.

Language Line Services developed the patent-pending technology that makes the 1-877-TU-LINEA component of the Your World. Your Language.(SM)service possible and provides specially-trained and experienced interpreters in 8 languages: Cantonese (Chinese), Japanese, Korean, Mandarin (Chinese), Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese, with more World Partners being added soon. AT&T operates the network and is responsible for the routing of calls through 1-877-TU-LINEA.
