CityTeam Ministries Appoints 20 Year Community Service Veteran as Vice President of Programs

Cesar Buitrago becomes one of the highest appointed Hispanic leaders in California’s privately funded non-profit charities César A. Buitrago named new Vice President of Programs for CityTeam Ministries

San Jose–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–October 31, 2003–CityTeam Ministries, a Christian organization serving the poor and disadvantaged in Santa Clara County, has recently named César A. Buitrago as Vice President of Programs.

Pastor Buitrago offers an extensive record of leadership both in the community as well as internationally to CityTeam, a 46-year-old multifaceted urban ministry. He has served as pastor of several churches in San Jose over the past 20 years. During this time, he has helped develop dozens of key leaders who are presently working in various outreach programs in low-income neighborhoods. He has simultaneously worked for CityTeam for the last 10 years as Director of Church Advancement, developing growth and outreach strategies and building communities of faith among the poor and disadvantaged in San Jose. He has also been a key player in a broad spectrum of programs sponsored by CityTeam International, ranging from raising up leadership to help the poor of El Salvador recover from the devastation of major earthquakes there, training pastors in Mexico, and providing leadership training in churches in Cuba, as well as helping to develop other partnerships in Dublin, Ireland and CapeTown, South Africa.

Pat Robertson, President of CityTeam for more than 30 years, says Buitrago’s leadership will take the ministry to a new level of service to the poor in Silicon Valley. “Pastor Buitrago is a visionary leader,” said Robertson. “He has a tremendous compassion for the poor, brokenhearted and addicted of this community. He loves, cares for and understands the unique and distinctive needs of the Latino community, which is the fastest growing population we serve.” Indeed, this year, for the first time, Latinos represent the largest minority group in the nation.

Mr. Buitrago states, “This appointment is a tremendous honor to me and to the Latino community. I have always defined leadership in terms of service, following the example Jesus set for us. The most exciting aspect of this new role is the opportunity to serve the poor in our community in creative and innovative ways. CityTeam is already the leader in helping the poor in San Jose. Now I want to expand our programs to reach more people in need and help those people become agents of change in their families and communities.”

Born in El Salvador, Pastor Buitrago and his family migrated to the United States in 1980. He has been serving the Hispanic immigrant population since his arrival here. He is an ordained minister, with a B.S. from San Jose Christian College in Theology and Missions.

César and his wife, Patty, have been married for 20 years and have three children: Patricia, 17, César Jr., 14, and Abby, 5.
