CMS and its Partner Organizations in Chicago, IL Alert Hundreds of Medicare Beneficiaries About Extra Help With Prescription Drug Costs to Stay Healthy

It's easier than ever to save on prescription costs. The "Extra Help" Program allows more beneficiaries to pay $2.50 for generics, $6.30 for brand name drugs

WHAT: Teresa Nino, CMS External Affairs Director, will join the Chicago Hispanic Health Coalition and National Alliance for Hispanic Health, as well as other local partner organizations to provide information to Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers who may qualify for extra help to pay for prescription drug costs through Medicare low-income subsidy (LIS) or “Extra Help” program. LIS is available under the Medicare Part D prescription program and provides financial assistance for beneficiaries to help pay for their monthly premium, yearly deductible, prescription coinsurance and copayments and no gap in coverage.

WHAT BENEFICIARIES SHOULD KNOW: If you have limited income and resources, Medicare’s “Extra Help” can save participating seniors as much as $3,900 per year. A new law changed how your income and assets are counted in 2010. Even if you were turned down for “Extra Help”, you should reapply. If you qualify, you’ll get help paying for Medicare prescription drug coverage premiums, copayments and deductibles.
