WEST CHESTER, Pa.–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–February 4, 2004–Former Miss Universe Barbara Palacios has transitioned from beauty queen to entrepreneur. In her newest venture, Palacios will share her love of jewelry and design with viewers across the country as she launches Joyas de Bárbara – Barbara Palacios Jewelry, a jewelry collection created especially for QVC, a leading electronic retailer. The collection will premiere on TUESDAY, FEB. 24, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. EST.
Inspired by the desire of today’s modern woman to enjoy the finer things in life on practical budget, Joyas de Bárbara features updated, boutique-looking gemstone pieces. The collection, priced from $30 to $130, consists of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and pendants in opaque gemstones such as amethyst, smoky quartz, black onyx, mother-of-pearl and amazonite with sterling silver accents. These pieces, unique in both color and texture, are right for all women and all occasions.
“Joyas de Bárbara is meant to make every woman feel like a queen, without the royal price tag,” explains Palacios. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to bring my collection to such a vast audience through QVC. It is truly a company that holds quality and value in high regard — principles that are aligned with my own.”
It was through her wide array of experiences as an international celebrity in the realm of fashion and beauty, as well as her extensive travels throughout the world, that Palacios became passionate about jewelry. During her recent visits to China, Thailand, Brazil and Argentina, Palacios sought and found semiprecious stones, which inspired this unique jewelry collection. She has worked with talented designers to translate her vision, as well as her understanding of today’s modern woman, into exquisite jewelry pieces.
“Barbara’s beauty and grace are reflected in her line,” noted QVC Vice President Jewelry Catherine Coquillard. “The designs of her opaque gemstone jewelry provide our customers a collection that is different than anything currently available through QVC.”
A native of Venezuela, Palacios was crowned Miss Universe in 1986. Since that time she has remained in the public eye as the Latina Cover Girl for the U.S. market, a Revlon model in Venezuela and most recently a spokeswoman for Unilever in the U.S. For many years, she was also the spokesperson for Verizon in the U.S. She has always been an engaged philanthropist, supporting causes such as the International Red Cross and most recently The International Kids Fund (IKF).
