EP Named Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album of 2004

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–May 3, 2004–Ozomatli, LA’s beloved Afro-Latin style smashing ensemble, received top honors last week for their EP “Coming Up” at the 2004 Billboard Latin Music Awards. “Coming Up” (Concord Records 2003) was named best Latin Rock/Alternative Album of the year by one of the music industry’s most prestigious organizations.

“This means a lot of us,” says saxophonist Ulises Bella. “We’re really proud of this body of work and it’s nice to know we’re not the only ones.”

Ozomatli beat out popular Latin music heavyweights, Café Tacuba (“Cuatro Caminos”), La Ley “Libertad”) and Molotov (Dance and Dense Denso”) to grab the best Latin/Alternative rock album spot of 2004.

The six songs on “Coming Up” are a culture-swapping introduction to the band’s notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa.

Unfortunately, Ozomatli missed the star-studded Miami event because they were on tour in Massachusetts promoting their upcoming full-length LP, entitled “Street Signs.” The “Coming Up” EP came out in September 2003 and is a six-song precursor to “Street Signs,” which will make its debut June 22, 2004.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, as determined by the sales and radio airplay data used in compiling the weekly Billboard charts.
