Los Angeles City Council Public Safety Committee to Vote on Ordinance Calling for Alcohol-Ad Ban

Experts Agree Youth Drinking and Harm Encouraged by Allowing Alcohol Ads on Public Property


LOS ANGELES, May 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — According to Alcohol Justice, youth, adults, and community organizations that make up the The Coalition to Ban Alcohol Ads on Public Property in Los Angeles (www.NoAlcoholAds.org) will attend the L.A. City Council Public Safety Committee meeting tomorrow at L.A. City Hall. They will testify and encourage passage of Council Member Richard Alarcon’s motion “requesting that the City Attorney, with the assistance of the Board of Public Works, Departments of Building and Safety and General Services, and the Planning Department, prepare an ordinance to prohibit alcohol advertising on city-owned and controlled property.” The motion has been held up in the Public Safety Committee since the summer of 2011 by committee chair Mitchell Englander.

  • The L.A. County Department of Public Health has recommended reducing alcohol advertising in public spaces and in areas commonly seen by minors as a way to help discourage underage drinking
