PANAMA CITY, Panama–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 25, 2002–Copa Airlines has won the Latin American Business Award given by PODER Magazine for the best Latin American regional strategy.
In a recent Miami ceremony, Copa Airlines was praised for the impetus it has given to Latin American regional integration through the development of its Hub of the Americas and its impact on Panama’s capital city.
“This award is a recognition of our staff who work to make Copa Airlines a company that is completely dedicated to national and regional development. The Hub of the Americas makes possible to take advantage of Panama’s geographic and competitive benefits and contributes significantly to the union and progress of our continent,” declared Pedro Heilbron, president of the airline, on receiving the award. “We share this distinction with all our personnel and coworkers.”
PODER Magazine, Booz Allen & Hamilton and Egon Zehnder International created the Latin American Business Awards to highlight the excellence of the region’s businesses and the people whose vision and effort have helped give life to the companies.
In determining the winners of this first-time award, the organizers considered the current turbulent and uncertain conditions in Latin America. For that reason, the recognition emphasizes the ability of the award-winning companies and executives to work in a difficult environment and overcome such conditions through ingenuity, discipline and clear objectives.
The first Latin American Business Awards also were awarded to other major companies such as Grupo Prisa (Spain); Bimbo (Mexico); Cerveceria Modelo (Mexico); Cerveceria Regional del Grupo Cisneros (Venezuela) and El Nuevo Herald (U.S.).
With more than 55 years of experience, Copa Airlines (http://www.copaair.com) serves 29 destinations in 19 countries in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. In September 2001, Copa was named to the “Excelencia 2001” (“Excellence 2001”) list in America Economia for “innovation, creativity and leadership in the field of aviation.” From its base at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, Copa Airlines operates the Hub of the Americas one of the most efficient and successful hubs in Latin America. In 2002, the airline expects to transport 1.2 million passengers.
