San Francisco, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–August 23, 2005–Northern California’s largest adult amateur Hispanic soccer tournament, titled “Comcast Cup presented by Toyota,” will take over the Polo Fields at Golden Gate Park Labor Day Weekend (September 3-5). Free to the public, soccer fans are invited to watch top amateur players compete in exciting single elimination rounds for a total of $10,000 in prize money. A festival atmosphere of music, food, contests, giveaways and family fun will round out the weekend-long event.
On the final day of the tournament, Chivas Guadalajara and Chivas USA star Martin Zuniga will be on-site to sign autographs and meet fans. For younger soccer enthusiasts, the San Jose Earthquakes will host the Sierra Mist MLS Dribble, Pass and Score(TM) program, a free youth skills competition on Saturday and Sunday.
To commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, the “Comcast Cup presented by Toyota” is paired with a festival of music and food celebrating the Bay Area Latino community’s passion for soccer. The three-day tournament will highlight some of the State’s greatest amateur soccer players and offers soccer fans a chance to win various prizes. Fans can register to be randomly selected to win a trip for four to Mexico or participate in Toyota’s “Kick for a Truck Contest,” set to take place both Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5. Other contests will take place throughout the weekend with more prizes including free tickets to the San Jose Earthquakes game against Chivas USA on September 10, at Spartan Stadium and official team merchandise from both MLS teams.
“Comcast Cup presented by Toyota” will feature more than 60 of the best adult amateur teams in Northern California. The championship tournament will consist of California Soccer Association North affiliated and invited non-affiliated teams from Sacramento down to Fresno. Nearly 70% of these Northern California amateur teams are made up of Hispanic players.
The “Comcast Cup presented by Toyota” will take place at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park, in San Francisco, September 3, 4 and 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
