Norwalk, CT–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–July 30, 2004–For a fourth consecutive year,
the largest Hispanic male amateur soccer tournament, Copa Tecate, will host
its Quarter Finals playoffs this weekend. Eight soccer leagues from across
the U.S. will give it their all for an opportunity to compete in the upcoming
Semi Finals in San Jose on August 14.
This weekends lineup of matches includes San Francisco vs. Fresno; Phoenix
vs. El Paso; New York vs. Dallas; and Atlanta vs. Houston.
The intensity and sportsmanship witnessed with each of these leagues in the
Round of 16 is only a precursor to what will be seen in the Quarter Finals competition.
Memorable highlights from each team in the Round of 16 include:
— Aguaje (San Francisco) and Mexico F.C. (Fresno) advanced to the Quarter
Finals in their first-ever Copa Tecate appearance.
— Deportivo Guerrero (Phoenix) turned out multiple goal scorers, Salvador
Sanchez and Jorge Fernandez two goals apiece to earn a victory with the
highest goal total defeating Bella Vista (Los Angeles) 7-2.
— In a 2-0 victory, Altavista (El Paso) defeated Soles (Albuquerque)
the lowest goal total
— First-year participants Pumas (Atlanta) took a 2-1 victory against Irapuato
Leagues returning to the Quarter Finals in consecutive years are Phoenix (Deportivo
Guerrero); Dallas (Toros); New York (Paraguay Giant); and El Paso (Altavista).
While all teams are eager to represent their hometown for the national win,
Altavista former tournament champion is the only team that stands
to gain a two-time victory. Let the competition begin!

The semi-finals and finals playoff series will take place on August 14th and
15th in San Jose, California the official host city of the 2004 Copa
Tecate at Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University. Big plans

and Hispanic American adult, amateur soccer leagues that compete in local qualifying
to determine 19 regional winners who advance to single elimination national
championship games. Local qualifying began in February as more than 80
amateur teams and more than 65,000 participants played their hearts out hoping
to advance to the Quarter Finals playoff rounds. The Round of 16 playoffs
ended in June with the defending championship market (Chicago) eliminated making
way for a new winner in 2004.
