Washington, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–September 24, 2004–In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), IKEA, the leading home furnishings retailer with U.S. headquarters in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., is voluntarily recalling 25,000 IKEA BERTBY glass-door wall cabinets (article number: 380.472.10) and making available a free repair kit. Some of the BERTBY glass-door wall cabinets sold from January 2002 through September 9, 2004 have the wrong sized screws for the safety bracket, which could result in the cabinet not being properly secured to the wall surface.
IKEA has received two reports of incidents where cabinets have fallen down. Neither incident resulted in any injuries. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries.
IKEA is offering a free repair kit consisting of the correct sized screws and instructions to all consumers. The product name (BERTBY), article number (380-472-10) and supplier number (14709) can be located on the underside of the bottom panel, or on the top side of the top panel.
Since many of the BERTBY glass-door wall cabinets that were purchased may actually have contained the correct sized screws, consumers should determine if the repair is needed by contacting IKEA directly by calling (888) 966-4532 or visiting their local IKEA store Returns and Exchange department. IKEA will be providing to consumer replacement screws, as well as instructions on how to safely replace the screws.
The recalled IKEA BERTBY cabinets were sold from January 2002 through September 9, 2004 and had retailed for $99.
For more information, consumers should contact IKEA at (888) 966-4532 anytime or visit the company’s website at http://www.ikea-usa.com.
