Dallas, TX—(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–October 30, 2003–First Annual Deep Ellum Nightfair on Elm Street, sponsored by the Deep Ellum Association and Miller Lite, is expected to be the Deep Ellum area’s biggest-ever Halloween event and provide funding to support continued improvements for the famous entertainment district.
Tomorrow’s Halloween street fair will run from 6-10:30 p.m., and include an outdoor, interactive screening of the horror classic, “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a Horrible Karaoke contest, live music, free psychic readings and food and drinks. The highlight of the event will be the Miller Lite King and Queen of Scream contest, hosted by a real scream queen, Texan B-Movie horror star, Athena Demos.
“Deep Ellum is an important part of the city of Dallas, and we have been working non-stop to make sure that this Friday’s Halloween event will be fun and unique—just like the like Deep Ellum area,” said Sean Wisdom, President of Deep Ellum Association.
Last year, the Deep Ellum area generated $675 million in gross sales of taxable revenue for the county and City of Dallas. Wisdom plans to continue promoting the area to increase awareness of Deep Ellum’s culture and history, which dates back to the 1800’s, and today has become a venue for progressive artistic values and diversity in food, entertainment and retail.
“Deep Ellum is Dallas’ first urban village and a valuable asset to the city”, said Mayor Pro Tem John Loza. “This area has helped to lead the revitalization movement in Downtown Dallas. “Deep Ellum’s economic contribution to the county and City of Dallas is tremendous, and as such, it is important that our citizens recognize that these local events in turn help pay for city services and improvements.”

Tickets for the event will be $8, which after the event will provide patrons access to over 30 bars, clubs and restaurants. One hundred percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the Deep Ellum Association efforts to promote, maintain and beautify the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood.
The First Annual Nightfair on Elm Street is part of the Deep Ellum 20th Anniversary series of events that will culminate with Deep Ellum Month in June 2004. Additional events contributing to the cultural landscape of Dallas include The 2003 Deep Ellum Loft Tour, The 2004 Deep Ellum Music and Heritage Festival, the annual Art Week Festival and the June 2004 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Rebirth of Deep Ellum.
