New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–June 15, 2004–Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks company, and Johnnie Walker sponsored a humanitarian airlift that delivered 56,000 pounds of food and emergency supplies to flood victims in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. To announce its support to the Dominican and Haitian Community here in the New York area, the company held a press conference at Hispaniola Restaurant in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

“I am grateful to help restore hope to those whose lives might seem hopeless, to bring aid to my brothers and sisters in their time of need and work together to rebuild their communities and lives,” said José A. Jiménez, General Manager for Diageo Dominicana.

The mission, called “The Diageo Spirit of the Americas Airlift,” departed Sunday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. from Miami International Airport.

Iván Menezes, CEO and President, Diageo North America, said, “Diageo is a citizen of the world, and when one of our neighbors is in need, we reach out to help.”

Diageo enjoys a longstanding relationship with both the Dominican Republic and Haiti and contributes to both countries’ economies. Diageo Dominicana employs 40 persons in the Dominican Republic. “On behalf of the nearly 30,000 Diageo employees worldwide who make Guinness and Johnnie Walker, we are honored to be able to deliver assistance to the people of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It is our hope that these food and nutritional materials will help bring hope and health to people who have been struck by this terrible calamity,” said Menezes.

This Airlift is part of Diageo’s ongoing humanitarian efforts. The Diageo Spirit of the Americas Airlift departed from Miami June 6, en route to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic where it distributed half of its cargo. The airlift has since flown on to Port Au Prince, Haiti, to deliver the rest of the supplies.
