New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–June 3, 2004–The Don’t Count Us Out Coalition today hailed an announcement by Tribune Broadcasting calling on Nielsen Media Research delay Local People Meter (LPM) service in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago until Nielsen addressed the current shortcomings of these new services as identified by the Media Rating Council in its recent audit of the New York service.

Tribune Broadcasting joins a growing list of concerned elected officials, community groups and networks like Univision, Fox and CBS that have asked Nielsen to delay.

The Coalition was pleased to see that Tribune Broadcasting recognized that Nielsen’s decision to rollout the LPM system with out MRC accreditation is “unwise and unsound.”

It is inexcusable that after ignoring the calls of elected officials and community groups, as well as that of the organization setup by Congress to accredit their ratings, Nielsen still plans to rollout the LPM system.

The Coalition continues to ask, why the rush? If Nielsen believes in the integrity of the LPM system then they ought to delay the rollout of the system and explain to the concerned citizens, elected officials and community groups why the system undercounts African Americans and Latinos.

We are pleased that Tribune Broadcasting has joined the growing list of networks, community groups and elected officials that have called to delay the LPM rollout.
