ADVISORY for Thursday, April 5

WHAT:

The East LA Community Corporation (ELACC) will celebrate the Grand Opening of its Kern Villa Apartments. As a Section 8 Project-based property, the acquisition and $6.6 million rehabilitation of Kern Villa has ensured that all of the units remain accessible, of the highest quality and, most importantly, affordable to low-income tenants. In a city faced with one of the worst affordable housing crisis in the nation, ELACC has a vision for responsible and inclusive development throughout the city and has built over 364 units of affordable housing, including single-family homes for purchase as well as multi-family rental.

Kern Villa includes 49 fully remodeled units, over half of which are fully accessible for the disabled. It features a large courtyard, a children’s play area with brand new equipment, a newly remodeled community room and laundry room. All Kern Villa tenants also have access to other ELACC services, including wellness, first-time homebuyer and financial literacy programs, as well as theater workshops for the youth of Kern Villa, all currently being offered in the community room. As part of ELACC’s community-driven process, residents participate in monthly meetings where they identify and prioritize the needs of the Kern Villa community and help design management policies and procedures.
