The ‘got milk?’ Great American Weight Loss Challenge is Coming to San Antonio on Thursday, April 6

ADVISORY for April 6-9

The “got milk?” Great American Weight Loss Challenge is coming to San Antonio. Claudia González, author of the book “Gordito Doesn’t Mean Healthy”, joins this national educational campaign that provides a 12-week program to lose weight in a healthy manner and challenges Hispanics to drink 24 ounces of milk every 24 hours.

The Challenge will visit San Antonio as part of their 75 cities’ tour, including the 8 most important Hispanic cities. Partnered with Curves International and Shape magazine, this grassroots effort will provide activities in which people can:

— Get their own milk mustache photo.

— Sample low-fat or fat-free milk from local dairies.

— Speak with a bilingual registered dietitian about healthy, long-term weight loss strategies.

— Receive a general health assessment that provides a benchmark for weight loss.

— Get exercise tips from representatives of Curves, the leader in women’s fitness.

— Get an autographed copy of Claudia González’s book, “Gordito Doesn’t Mean Healthy.”

The Great American Weight Loss Challenge was created in 2005 due to the fact that obesity in the US has increased by more than 60% in the last 10 years. The Milk Processors Educational Program was designed to educate consumers about the benefits of milk and to help people lose weight in a healthy manner.

Recent studies show that eating breakfast regularly – particularly a breakfast of cereal and milk – can be very beneficial in achieving a healthy weight. The Challenge provides the necessary tools, including recipes, meal plans, and exercise programs. More than 80,000 have registered with the goal of achieving a healthier lifestyle.

Claudia González, certified bilingual nutritionist, will be present during the tour to educate Hispanics about the milk benefits and the 12-week weight loss plan. González will provide the public with the following information:

— Tips to easily incorporate the daily 24 ounces of milk, starting with a cereal and milk breakfast.

— Studies that support the connection between milk, eating breakfast and losing weight.

— Sign-up for the Great American Weight Loss Challenge at

Meet Sylvia Ricondo, a San Antonio resident! She will be present to share her weight loss success story and to motivate others to take the Challenge.
