40 HCF Scholars to be honored at the Hispanic College Fund’s Annual Gala

Washington, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–June 8, 2006–The Hispanic College Fund is pleased to announce that the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund will be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2006 Hispanic College Fund Scholarship Awards Gala. The gala will be held on October 20th at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC.

“The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund is pleased to join this effort to celebrate the tremendous talent of this rising generation of Latino business leaders, scientists and engineers,” said W. Frank Fountain, President of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund.

“We are proud to welcome the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund into our family of sponsors, said Fernando Barrueta, President & CEO of the Hispanic College Fund. “This support allows us to connect our growing number of HCF Scholars to the many professional opportunities and role models in this industry. This is particularly significant as 6 of every 10 of our scholars are the first person in their family to go to college and need guidance on starting a professional career.”

The Annual Scholarship Awards Gala recognizes the top-performing Hispanic College Fund Scholars from across the country. The scholars get to participate in the Hispanic Young Professionals (HYP) program, an intense three-days of leadership development, workshops and activities that expose them to corporations in the DC region and cultural events. HYP culminates with the networking reception and scholarship awards gala. The HCF Scholars, who compete to deliver the keynote speech at the black-tie dinner, will be selected from among the 600 HCF students receiving a Hispanic College Fund scholarship this fall. The Hispanic College Fund board members, sponsors and business leaders are currently reviewing thousands of applicants from across the country to select the scholarship winners, to be announced on July 15. Hispanic College Fund scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and financial need.

“From the networking session to the Gala, all the activities were opportunities for growth” said Pedro Perez, a 2005 HCF Scholar and HYP participant, “I have to say the event inspired me to make a difference.”

Significant sponsors of the thirteenth annual gala include CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC. General Dynamics Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Marriott International, Bank of America, Coca Cola Bottling of the Mid-Atlantic, Pepco, Denny’s, the Estee Lauder Companies, the Sallie Mae Fund and Starwood Hotels & Resorts have also committed their support.

The Hispanic College Fund is a private non-profit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Hispanic professionals in America. The HCF mission is to provide Hispanic students with the vision, resources, and mentorship needed to attain successful careers and become community leaders. Since its founding in 1993, HCF has supported the education of over 3,000 financially disadvantaged Hispanic students seeking careers in business, science, engineering and technology with over $6 million in grants. Through programs like the HCF Scholarship Program, Hispanic Youth Symposium, Latinos on the Fast Track (LOFT), HCF Connections and the HYP Leadership & Development Program, HCF is enriching lives and building bridges for our future Hispanic leaders.
