Dallas, TX–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–April 23, 2007–In its second year, El Hispano News’ “Parents Step Ahead” program will partner with La Voz Del Anciano, a Dallas advocacy group for Hispanic senior citizens. El Hispano News’ “Parents Step Ahead” program is a community outreach initiative with the mission of educating, enabling and empowering parents to take a proactive role in the educational and personal development of their children. “With grandparents having a much more active role in the raising of children than ever before, our partnership with La Voz Del Anciano will be very important. This program is relevant to all child caregivers; not just parents,” said Lupita Colmenero, publisher of El Hispano News and founder of “Parents Step Ahead”.

Schools within the Dallas, Fort Worth and Garland Independent School Districts will host a series of “Parents Step Ahead” events aimed at educating parents/child guardians on the importance of their involvement and the positive impact their guidance has in a child’s life. Each school event will be from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm with a complimentary breakfast and childcare. Seminar topics will range from:

— Dangers of Underage Drinking and Drugs

— Keeping Your Child Safe (Domestic Violence and Family Counseling)

— Understanding the Influence of Gangs and Violence on Children

— Developing Test Taking Skills

— Parenting with Love and Logic

— Understanding Bullying and Social Cruelty

— How to Help Your Child Succeed in School

At the conclusion of all school events, selected program participants will be chosen as El Hispano News’ “Parents Step Ahead” Parent of the Year and be recognized in an award ceremony and given a prize package.
