NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ — Healthcare Management Systems, Inc.(R) (HMS) announced today that it was selected by the Hospital at the University of Puerto Rico to supply an integrated hospital information system. For the 250-bed teaching hospital in Carolina, Puerto Rico, HMS will provide a full suite of clinical and financial software applications to help the facility implement an electronic health record (EHR).
The hospital’s investment will replace their financials-only system and add clinical and ancillary solutions on an integrated and comprehensive platform. HMS’ inpatient EHR is CCHIT Certified(sm) for 2007, and the implementation of the new system reinforces the organization’s commitment to quality initiatives.
“From among the few well-known vendors on the Island, HMS was selected based on their affordable system cost, CCHIT certification, financial and clinical applications’ full integration, reliable and robust IBM System i platform and HL7 capability to interface with some of the leading ED tracking systems available on the market,” said Francisco J. Perez, chief information officer for the Hospital at the University of Puerto Rico.
“We are pleased to be a part of the hospital’s goals to improve operational efficiency and increase patient safety,” said Tom Stephenson, president and chief executive officer of HMS. “We feel the overall integration and depth of the HMS system will help them better serve their community as they progress into the future.”
HMS will go live at the Hospital at the University of Puerto Rico on April 1, 2009. By that date, they will have a complete financial/clinical system, as well as an ED patient tracking system.
