Los Angeles, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–July 7, 2005–For the second year in a row, Fox Sports en Español will bring the excitement of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game to Spanish-speaking audiences throughout the United States. This year’s Midsummer Classic between the stars of the American and National Leagues will air exclusively live on Tuesday evening, July 12, from Detroit’s Comerica Park, starting with pre-game commentary at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
“We are proud to be the only U.S. TV network to once again offer Latino sports fans live Spanish-language coverage of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game,” said David Sternberg, executive vice president and general manager of Fox Sports en Español. “Given the participation of so many Latin American and U.S. Hispanic players in the game, this year’s broadcast will not only bring our viewers closer to their favorite players and teams, but will also serve as the perfect lead-in to our exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the MLB playoffs and World Series in October.”
The half-hour pre-game show will be hosted by Fox Sports en Español commentator Luis Rodriguez. Veteran baseball announcer Pepe Mantilla will provide on-site play-by-play, with color commentary from former Houston Astros and Oakland A’s slugger Jose Tolentino.
Fox Sports en Español acquired the exclusive Spanish-language rights for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game last year through a three-year sublicense agreement with Fox Broadcasting Company, similar to the arrangement under which the all-sports Spanish-language cable network has televised the MLB postseason since 2001.
