New McDonald’s Snack Wrap launches nationwide


Oak Brook, IL–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–August 2, 2006–McDonald’s today enlisted the support of a renowned “tortilla artist” to celebrate the national launch of the Snack Wrap available nationwide. A flour tortilla serves as the “canvas” for the new McDonald’s Snack Wrap, much as Los Angeles artist Joe Bravo uses the tortilla as a canvas to create distinctive works of art.

The new Snack Wrap is made with crispy, juicy premium chicken breast meat, cheddar jack cheese, crisp lettuce and a creamy ranch sauce, wrapped inside a soft flour tortilla all for the introductory price of only $1.29 at participating restaurants.

McDonald’s new Snack Wrap is a continuation of McDonald’s commitment to providing customers with a variety of food choices with quality, wholesome ingredients and premium tastes. The Snack Wrap gives McDonald’s customers who are constantly on the go and seeking value, a quality, delicious and easily portable snack.

At a product introduction event held today in Los Angeles, Bravo displayed a sampling of his tortilla art works while demonstrating the technique of tortilla-painting. He also presented a tortilla portrait to McDonald’s Chief Happiness Officer(TM) Ronald McDonald(R).

“I use the tortilla as a canvas because it is an integral part of the Hispanic culture and my goal like McDonald’s is to take tortillas to a whole new level with my tortilla artwork,” said Bravo. “Tortillas represent home, family and that is what McDonalds stands for,” added Bravo, who began using tortillas six years ago and is one of the only artists in the field.

With the introduction of the Snack Wrap, McDonald’s recognizes the importance of the tortilla as a growing staple in the American diet. According to the Tortilla Industry Association (TIA) the rapid growth of the tortilla industry is attributed not only to the growing Hispanic population, but to increasing tortilla consumption among Non-Hispanics as well. It is estimated that the tortilla industry may grow to be a $7 billion industry by the end of the year.(1)

A key supplier of tortillas for the Snack Wrap is Mission Foods, headquartered in Irving, Texas with a major plant in Los Angeles. Mission is the world’s largest tortilla manufacturer producing 80 million tortillas a day.
