New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – PR NEWSWIRE – USNEWSWIRE)–January 9, 2007–On Thursday, January 24th, 2008, the American Bible Society will conduct its second annual Day of Prayer for Christian Unity to coincide with the worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Organized under the auspices of the Bible Society’s Hispanic/Latino Ministries, the event will carry the theme Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5.17). The global observance was begun by the Graymoor Friars of Garrison, New York.
Special guests include Bible Society Trustee Padre Alberto Cutie, priest of the Archdiocese of Miami, who is a television and radio personality and the General Director of Pax Catholic Communications, where he brings messages of faith, hope and love to today’s world; Dr. Bill Mitchell, Translator, Biblical scholar and Translations Coordinator for the Americas at the United Bible Societies; and Hermana Glenda, internationally-renowned recording artist, and member of the Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation.
Monsignor Kenneth Smith, priest of the Archdiocese of New York and pastor of St. Catherine of Genoa parish, will lead a prayer session in Lectio Divina, a dynamic centuries-old Bible reading and reflection method that is part of the devotional life of the Catholic Church. The Day of Prayer for Christian Unity is designed to further promote the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, present the Word of God in a manner that is easy to understand, and reach the Hispanic and Latino communities throughout the New York City area. Christian leaders and seminary students are invited to attend.

Held annually January 18th-25th, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is designed to engage all Christians in prayer and to foster unity among Christians worldwide.
