MIAMI, FL–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–July 19, 2002–The Port of Miami announced today that the first annual International PortFest, a fun-filled festival, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 28th and 29th, noon – 7 p.m., on the Port’s picturesque waterfront. The festival will be a celebration of the Port’s valuable contribution to international trade and tourism in the region.
The Ports-of-Call International Pavilion Village will showcase international trade products, tourism, arts and crafts, live entertainment, wine tasting, authentic seafood, and other exotic dishes from Thailand, Nigeria, France, Uruguay, Barbados, and the United States.
“PortFest will be a great forum for cultural interchange between Uruguay and the United States,” said Mercedes Menafra, First Lady of Uruguay. “It will give Uruguay an opportunity to showcase its products, folkloric music, and arts and crafts to the public,” added Menafra.
“Shipmate’s Corner” will be dedicated to children and their parents. They will experience exciting foreign cultures as they get their Passport to Adventure stamped to be eligible to win great prizes such as a seven-day cruise.
“PortFest aims to open the eyes of local residents, visitors and businesses to the current economic impact and financial contribution of the port to the regional economy,” said Seaport Director Charles A. Towsley. “By actively promoting an appreciation of the resources, the festival also aims to build community pride. PortFest will be a fun-filled weekend with numerous events that the entire family will enjoy.”
