Phoenix, AZ–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–September 7, 2005–Cafe Taza, a Latino coffeehouse with cross-cultural appeal, today announced Jeffrey Garza Walker, or “Senor Java,” has joined the company’s management group as an equity partner and will serve as general manager. He will oversee cafe operations, beginning with the south Phoenix location, formerly Panaderia Taza, at 7602 S. Central Ave.
A successful entrepreneur, Walker brings an extensive managerial background to Cafe Taza, as well as his personal experience as the founder of Java Vida. Operations at Java Vida’s Central Ave. location concluded on Aug. 31, and personnel relocated to Cafe Taza. The remaining Java Vida locations will continue under the sole direction of Cody Williams.
Walker’s involvement with Cafe Taza coincides with the Sept. 1 debut of an expanded line of organic coffees, iced lattes, and fruit- and coffee-blended smoothies. In addition, the cafe is intensifying its community outreach with exhibitions featuring local artists, band performances, car washes and script programs benefiting local schools. Cafe Taza is also collaborating with the South Mountain/Laveen Chamber of Commerce by hosting mixers and showcasing the local business community through an onsite promotional display.
“What makes us unique is the passion we pour in each cup,” Walker said. “At Cafe Taza, we’re celebrating the origins of coffee by offering customers an organic fair-trade product, presented in a socially conscious setting that pays homage to Latin American culture. However, it’s not just about the coffee. As a community cafe with multilingual employees, we embrace the South Mountain area and have created a comfortable environment for a multitude of backgrounds.”
Customers can take advantage of a free WiFi connection inside the cafe as well as frequent buyer cards. Also on Sept. 1, the cafe began an “Early-Bird Mug Giveaway.” A free mug and pan dulce accompany any purchase made between 5-7 a.m.
Operated by Hispanic ownership, Cafe Taza’s founding partners include Lee Cohn, a veteran Valley restaurateur, and Todd Belfer, originator of the RA Sushi Bar concept. The company’s franchising plans include opening four new Valley locations by the end of next year.
Cafe Taza is open Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
