Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield Launches Spanish Language Web Site

Millions of New Yorkers now have access to health and benefits information through Empire en Español

New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–April 17, 2007–Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield is proud to announce the launch of its Spanish-language Web site as part of its ongoing efforts to serve New York’s Hispanic community. Designed to provide easy-to-access health, plan and benefit information to Spanish speakers, the site is meeting the needs of one of the fastest growing populations in the United States.

Like its English-language counterpart, Empire en Español offers an easy-to-navigate information portal. Content is organized into four categories, health information, plans and benefits, member services and communications. Visitors can search the site for participating network physicians and hospitals, find an Empire health plan that best meets their needs, learn about Empire’s 360º Health program and review real-life case studies, and browse past issues of Empire’s newsletter, HealthySolutions.

“Empire en Español is the first in a series of innovations that Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield intends to accomplish in laying the groundwork for a more informed Hispanic constituency,” said Mark Wagar, Plan President. “Many of our members communicate more comfortably in Spanish, and our site gives them the tools to better understand their health plans, empowering them to make good decisions about their health care.”

Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, a leading health insurer in New York, seeks to employ a variety of strategies that help consumers take a more active role in their health and health care. As New York’s Hispanic population continues to grow, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield is dedicated to addressing their specific needs by establishing a network of programs and tools that takes into account language and cultural differences.

“The Web site reflects our commitment to continually find new and better ways to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse marketplace,” said Mary Scanlon, senior vice president of eBusiness consumer technology. “With this site, New York’s Spanish-speaking community has a valuable source of online health and benefits information for better decision-making about health care options.”
