Dallas, TX–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–March 30, 2004–As Mother’s Day approaches, kids across America will begin thinking about creative ways to tell their moms they are loved and appreciated. Write a poem? Clean the house? Make breakfast in bed?
Pizza Hut, Inc., the world’s largest pizza restaurant company, has an even better idea: Win mom a $750 Pizza Hut gift card that frees her from the kitchen once a week for a whole year.
Today, the company announced a new essay contest — “Why Pizza Hut Should Cook for My Mom” — for children ages 5 to 18 who send in a composition of 300 words or less. Entries will be judged on reason, originality and style and will be accepted from March 29 to April 26. The winner will be announced Monday, May 3, prior to Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 9.
“Mother’s Day is a wonderful opportunity for kids to be creative and let mom know she is appreciated. We want to offer kids the ultimate gift for mom: something for mom that will make her life easier and allow her to spend time with the family,” said Cindy Davis, Pizza Hut vice president of marketing.
According to Davis, American moms, whether they work in or outside the home, are always stretched for time. “Moms are constantly on the go. They are picking up and dropping off. They are working and volunteering. They are supervising schoolwork and activities. They are planning and preparing meals. And their major complaint is that there aren’t enough hours in the day,” said Davis.
“Pizza is the family meal moms prefer because it provides relief from their pressure-cooker schedules and gives them a night off from cooking so they have more time to spend with the family,” she explained.
Davis said the “Why Pizza Hut Should Cook for My Mom” essay contest offers kids a way to express their sentiments and win mom something that will give her — and the whole family — a special treat all year long.
Parents who have kids interested in entering may visit the contest site at http://www.pizzahut.com and download an entry form or submit an essay with their name, address and phone number to Pizza Hut Mother’s Day Contest, 14841 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX 75254. How Kids Say They’d Like to Celebrate Mother’s Day
So what can moms expect from their kids on Mother’s Day? According to an independent survey of more than 4,000 kids aged 6 to 14, the two most popular ideas kids have for celebrating Mother’s Day are to make a gift and treat her to a meal. Taking mom out for a meal was the most-cited answer (43 percent) among the older children surveyed (ages 12 to 14), while nearly half (47 percent) of the youngest children (ages 6 to 8) said they would most like to make mom a gift. Helping out around the house was a distant third among all age groups, with 14 percent overall saying that’s what they’d like to do for mom on Mother’s Day.
When asked about their favorite thing that mom does for them throughout the year, four in 10 kids say she makes them feel safe, followed by nearly a quarter (24 percent) who think mom’s cooking is their favorite thing. And the old adage about winning a man’s heart through his stomach apparently begins early. While gender differences were negligible on most questions, boys were more likely than girls to rate mom’s cooking as their favorite thing.
