New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–March 8, 2007–Billboard, the world’s most trusted source of music, video and digital entertainment news, charts, reviews and analysis, announced today that twelve-time Latin Grammy winner Juanes will take part in an exclusive Q&A session at the Billboard Latin Music Conference, presented by Heineken in association with Target and Dodge, being held April 23-26 at the InterContinental Miami in Miami, Florida. This one-on-one interview will be conducted by Leila Cobo, Billboard’s executive director of content and programming for Latin music and entertainment.
Now in its 18th year, the Billboard Latin Music Conference’s annual Q&A has emerged as the centerpiece of the world’s largest and longest-running Latin music gathering. This year, Colombian rock superstar Juanes will come to Billboard just a few months shy of releasing his new album, the much anticipated follow-up to his multi-platinum album “Mi Sangre.” The singer/songwriter also just launched his own record label, 4Js, a joint venture with Universal.
In recent years, Juanes has become the world’s top-selling all Spanish-language music artist, topping charts and selling-out concerts around the world. Juanes’ solo career began in 2000 with the stark “Fijate Bien,” an album nominated for seven Latin Grammy Awards – a record that still stands to this day. Juanes’ elevation to superstar status soon followed with “Un Dia Normal.” The widely praised album swept the 2003 Latin Grammy Awards (winning all five categories in which it was nominated) and became the #1 Spanish-language album of the year in both sales and airplay. This brought Juanes to the top of six separate Billboard Year-End Latin charts and a cover appearance on the magazine’s Year In Music special issue. With the release of the multi-platinum “Mi Sangre,” Juanes’ success expanded across the globe. The album not only debuted at #1 throughout the Spanish speaking world but also saw three consecutive singles reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. This success was quickly repeated in Europe, where Juanes became the first all Spanish-language rock artist to top the charts in countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland and more.
Now a firmly established superstar in the Latin realm, the United States, Europe and the Far East, Juanes has also gained prominence as one of the most socially active artists of his generation. He donates time and money to a broad variety of causes, most notably his own Colombia Sin Minas (Colombia Without Mines) foundation, which works to eradicate landmines from Colombia’s rural areas. This combination of groundbreaking musical success and dedicated philanthropy lead TIME magazine to declare Juanes as one of the “100 most influential people in the world.”
“Juanes is at the top of his game, and his artistry and innovative approach to music-making is helping to push Latin music to new heights,” says Cobo. “The Billboard Q&A will be Juanes’ first public interview since the end of his world tour, and we can’t wait to hear what he has to say.”
Anchored by the Billboard Q&A, the Billboard Latin Music Conference will also feature digital and mobile panels, a panel of music supervisors who will reveal how to get music on film, ads, and television, a teen focus group, panels on radio and immigration issues, and a discussion on rap, rhythm, and reggaetón. In addition, this four-day event will include entertaining showcases and the “We Hear the Future” showcase and competition, which will offer new acts an opportunity to perform for a panel of celebrity and industry judges. The winner of this competition will receive exposure in Billboard magazine and coverage on the “Billboard Latino” television show, which airs on Azteca America.
The week will be capped off with the Billboard Bash, the official pre-awards show party on April 25, followed by the prestigious Billboard Latin Music Awards on April 26, which will air live at 8pm EST on Telemundo.
