Café Bustelo® to Award $125,000 as part of Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship, Recognizing Latino Students and Their Commitment to Education and Their Communities

ORRVILLE, Ohio, April 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Today, iconic espresso-style coffee brand Café Bustelo® launched the 2021 Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship in partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). This year, the company will include an additional $25,000 in scholarships in celebration of its partnership with the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film  IN THE HEIGHTS. From the creator of Hamilton and the director of Crazy Rich Asians, IN THE HEIGHTS—where streets are made of music and little dreams become bigis the cinematic event of the summer, and Café Bustelo is proud to be the exclusive coffee of IN THE HEIGHTS. The film releases in theaters nationwide and streams in the U.S. exclusively on HBO Max – June 11. It will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.

The Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship is helping 2020 recipient Josefina Baltazar work toward her career in social services. Josefina is one of 20 recipients of the 2020 scholarship. The 2021 scholarship application process is now open: 25 students will each be awarded $5,000 to help further their educational goals, an increase from previous years in honor of the brand’s partnership with upcoming film IN THE HEIGHTS.

Since the scholarship began in 2014, $430,000 in college funds have been awarded to 86 Latino students nationwide through the partnership. This year, Café Bustelo wants applicants to share how their heritage, family, and community have impacted their desire and motivation to obtain a college degree; how they plan to give back to their community; and what they intend to accomplish with their degree in an essay in English or Spanish (800 words or less). Eligible applicants have the opportunity to receive one of 25 $5,000 scholarships. All eligible applications must be received by July 5, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Scholarship recipients will be announced on or about September 7, 2021.
