Miami, FL – (The Hispanic PR Monitor)- The National Committee of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) recently approved a student chapter at Florida Memorial College (FMC).

The induction ceremony of FMC’s PRSSA chapter will take place on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Albert E. and Sadie E. Smith Conference Center located at 15800 NW 42nd Ave in Miami.

“The approval of the student chapter by PRSA is a major achievement for the Communications Department,” said Dr. Jong-Ebot, chair of the Humanities Division.

National recognition of FMC’s PRSSA chapter comes with many benefits. Members can participate in regional and national activities, including conferences, case study competitions, award programs, leadership training, and scholarship competitions.

Florida Memorial College is the third academic institution in Miami with a PRSA student chapter. Others are the University of Miami and Florida International University.

“PRSSA membership helps to make FMC just as competitive as other universities nationwide,” said Dr. Mary-Angie Salvá-Ramírez, faculty advisor for the student chapter.

Established in 1879 Florida Memorial College is South Florida’s only historically black college, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Florida Memorial College offers 41 degree programs and three graduate programs and has a student population of more than 2,300 students.
