New York, NY–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–February 12, 2007–ImpreMedia, LLC, the nation’s leading Spanish-language newspaper and online news publisher, announced today it has agreed to acquire Tribune Company’s New York publication, Hoy, and its related weekend publication in New York, Fin de Semana. The pending acquisition does not include the Hoy publications in Los Angeles and Chicago.
ImpreMedia is the owner of New York’s El Diario La Prensa; the nation’s fastest growing paid major daily newspaper according to the ABC Fas-Fax released in September 2006. In fact, the combined circulation of El Diario La Prensa and Hoy New York over the past 10 years has more than doubled, with an 8% compounded annual growth rate. This growth underlies ImpreMedia’s strong readership and advertising revenue growth, both of which are significantly higher than those of mainstream publishing companies.
ImpreMedia is purchasing Hoy New York from Tribune Company (NYSE: TRB), one of the nation’s top media firms. Terms were not disclosed.
Serving the New York Hispanic Community
John Paton, Chairman & CEO of ImpreMedia, LLC said, “This is one of our most important announcements to date. By adding Hoy New York, we will increase our readership in New York – the nation’s second largest Hispanic market to 478,393.”
With the acquisition of Hoy New York, ImpreMedia will have a strong combination of free and paid dailies in the New York market. In addition to New York’s El Diario La Prensa, the nation’s oldest Spanish language newspaper, which has an ABC-audited daily paid circulation of 50,105 and Scarborough-measured daily readership of 266,812, ImpreMedia, also owns the weekend paper El Diario Contigo, which is CAC-audited and distributed to nearly 200,000 households in high-density Hispanic zip codes throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Hoy New York is a free daily newspaper published Monday through Friday with a CAC-audited circulation of 56,207. Fin de Semana New York is published every Saturday and has a distribution of 54,934.
Based on Scarborough research, the combined readership of Hoy New York and El Diario La Prensa will allow ImpreMedia to deliver nearly twice the number of Spanish-preferred adults as New York’s leading Spanish-language TV station, owned by Univision, and nearly three times more than New York’s leading Spanish-language radio station.
Driving Growth in National and Local Sales
“The addition of Hoy New York to the ImpreMedia national sales network will significantly increase our penetration of the New York Hispanic market,” said Erich Linker, Senior Vice President of Sales for ImpreMedia. “It will expand our overall national reach and make our sales proposition even more compelling.”
This announcement comes on the heels of ImpreMedia’s announcement in December that Ford Motor Company is using ImpreMedia’s integrated media solutions offering to promote the launch of their new crossover vehicle, the EDGE, in a 36-week multi-media multi-market campaign.
“The concept that ImpreMedia brought to us was completely on strategy – it aligned to priority geographic markets for the crossover segment where the Ford EDGE will compete, it connected with our target customer passion points and was a cross-media platform, which is how our customer consumes media,” stated Dave Rodriguez, Multicultural Marketing Manager for Ford. “Being able to tap these multi-tiered assets of ImpreMedia allows us to deliver on our objectives with a media partner that provides a complete media experience for consumers. It was a totally unique package on many fronts.”
