HOUSTON, TX–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–January 13, 2003–Starting this month Que Onda Magazine will feature a weekly, in-depth section of news and entertainment about Christian Spanish music. The first edition of the new section will include artist interviews and music reviews and will be available in Houston and Dallas in the January 23rd edition. San Antonio will be added to the edition on the 30th.

“We are very excited to bring this information to our readers because there really isn’t an outlet such as ours for the Spanish Christian market” said Chris Heisler, Operations Director for Que Onda Magazine. Last year Que Onda published over 8 million copies of Texas’s largest Bi-lingual news and entertainment magazine. Que Onda publishes weekly in Houston and every 15 days in Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio. These are three of the 10 largest Hispanic markets in the nation.

“Adding this focus to our coverage is good for the Christian entertainment industry. It gives them a huge outlet that is virtually untouched,” added Heisler. “There is a lot of great news to share with the Hispanic community about Christian music and entertainment.”

Christian music is seeing growth while the rest of the mainstream music industry is in the tank. What are they doing right? A variety of factors is contributing to its success. One major factor is to Gospel’s growth can be attributed to its increased presence on the radio dial. “We’re seeing the cumulative effect of several stations signing on and playing Christian music full time in major markets like Atlanta, Orange County and Chicago,” says Gospel Music Association president Frank Breeden.

Gospel has seen sales increase both from Christian retailers, which sell the lion’s share of the format’s music, as well as from mainstream outlets such as Wal-Mart and Target. “The mainstream has pulled ahead in its market share, but it hasn’t stolen market share from the Christian retailers, which shows that we’re expanding our core audience,” Breeden notes.
