Safe Shores – The D.C. Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), is gearing up for its annual spring/summer community clothing drive on Saturday, April 17th, as well as the first annual national race to stop child abuse. These events aim at raising public awareness for child abuse, and are appropriately scheduled in April, designated Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.
Safe Shores will have clothing collection stations at Freedom Plaza for the first annual national race to stop child abuse, hosted by the Futures Institute for Sustainable Development (FISD). FISD is a non-profit sister organization of the Futures Group, an international health and development organization.
Items received at the Clothing Drive will fill emergency take away bags for abused and neglected children being placed in foster care and the CAC’s clothes closet for other children in crisis.
— NEW clothes for boys and girls for spring and summer in sizes from newborn to adult (for teenagers), but particularly, child sizes 10 through 16, and all adult sizes; and
— Gift certificates to local stores or monetary donations, so staff can buy specifically needed items or sizes.
Saturday, April 17, 2004, 7:30 – 11 a.m. Donations will be accepted from 9 – 1 p.m.

Safe Shores – The D.C. Children’s Advocacy Center is a direct service nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and working directly with child victims of sexual and physical abuse in the District of Columbia. Through its child-friendly facility and multidisciplinary team approach, Safe Shores coordinates the work of medical and mental health providers, social services professionals, victim advocates, law enforcement and prosecution officials to reduce trauma and promote healing for child victims of abuse. Clothing donations will be accepted at Safe Shores throughout the month of April, 300 E Street, NW.
