Los Angeles, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–July 19, 2007 – El Clasificado (http://www.elclasificado.com) founders Martha de la Torre and Joe Badame were named finalists of the highly coveted Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for the Greater Los Angeles area (www.ey.com), which was bestowed at a gala event in the Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 26. Close to 100 applications were carefully examined by the panel of distinguished judges, who narrowed down the field to 18 finalists, among whom were the El Clasificado founders.

“We are so happy to be honored as finalists for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award,” exclaimed Martha de la Torre, co-founder and CEO of El Clasificado. “Every year Ernst & Young presents this award to the most successful and innovative entrepreneurs around the world, and we understand how difficult it is to even make it as a finalist among so many contenders.” Added Joe, “Getting this far twice in our careers is truly an accomplishment in itself, and we look forward to making it further in 2008!” El Clasificado was also named a regional finalist for the award in 2001.

Martha and Joe started El Clasificado (http://www.elclasificado.com) in May 1988 to help Los Angeles’ Spanish-speaking community conveniently find the services they sought, while learning to improve their lifestyles and adapt to a new country through the publication’s concise community-oriented editorials.

After enduring difficult challenges for the first ten years, Martha and Joe eventually found the right formula which enabled El Clasificado to reach its current levels of success. Today the company boasts of revenues in excess of $9 million and, with the acquisition of the Latin Alternative entertainment biweekly newspaper Al Borde (http://www.alborde.com), the organization now offers a variety of services including grassroots community events, several websites and mobile services, and is clearly poised to become the nation’s leading platform for multi-media solutions.

El Clasificado has also been recognized for its entrepreneurial spirit and success by other organizations such as the US Small Business Administration, the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Women Business Owners, and by premier magazines such as Hispanic Magazine, the Los Angeles Business Journal and Inc Magazine.
