Opa-Locka, FL–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–November 22, 2004–The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, the Florida ESGR Committee and the United States Coast Guard recognized Florida National Guardsmen, Reservists, and their supportive employers at a complimentary luncheon at the Opa-Locka Coast Guard Air Station in Miami.

“It’s an honor to recognize those employers, their commitment and support are valuable to our nation,” said Mr. David Bludworth, ESGR Florida State Chairman. The employers had the opportunity to sign a Statement of Support for Florida’s National Guardsmen and Reservists, who like the Minute Men before them, have answered their nation’s call to defend our way of life.

Additionally, 26 employers from South Florida received ESGR Patriots Award Certificates. ESGR awards this certificate and a Patriot lapel pin on behalf of the Department of Defense. All members of the National Guard and Reserve forces are eligible to nominate their employers for the Patriot Award certificate. This employer recognition is the most frequently presented. This nomination is subsequently used by the local ESGR Committee as the basis for consideration to receive higher level awards.

This event was the finale of a 100-city tour to salute America’s Employers of National Guardsmen and Reservists. Over 11,000 employers and citizens have attended ESGR Employer Outreach activities throughout the nation. Additionally, over 100,000 messages and signatures were obtained by signing the ESGR Support Our Troops banners that accompanied America’s Car tour.

“This historic ESGR Employer Outreach initiative is the first for ESGR. At no time ESGR volunteers have been engaged in a nationwide Employers Outreach activity,” said Bob Hollingsworth, ESGR Executive Director. “I encourage all employers to sustain their efforts to keep providing support “above and beyond” to their employees who serves in the National Guard and Reserve.”

ESGR provides free education, consultation, and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees. More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at http://www.esgr.mil or by calling 1-800-336-4590.
