Morris Township, NJ–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–June 24, 2004–Through July 11 at its Outdoor Stage in Morris Township, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents its first production of a work of Latin American origin: the east-coast premiere of ‘A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings’, adapted by Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz (b. Cuba, 1960) from the short story by Nobel Prize Laureate Gabriel García Márquez (b. Columbia, 1928). Bonnie J. Monte directs the production, which features Emilio Delgado, who for 25 years has played “Luis” on ‘Sesame Street’; Saundra Santiago, who recently appeared on Broadway opposite Antonio Banderas in NINE; and Broadway dancer Gregory Mitchell. Performances are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:15 p.m., and Sundays at 6:00 p.m. General admission is $28 ($40 on Opening Night, June 26), $15 for children age 12 and under, and free at the door for age 5 and under. This beautiful myth delights the imagination and the senses with archetypal imagery, wondrous phenomena and live music, including original compositions by Tony Award-nominated composer Nicholas Kitsopolous. As The Man With the Panama Hat is Emilio Delgado, who has been honored repeatedly by the National Academy of Arts and Sciences for his performance as Luis on ‘Sesame Street’, the longest-running part for a Chicano actor in a continuing television series. His recent New York theatre credits include the award-winning ‘Dismiss All The Poets’.
In the title role is dancer Gregory Mitchell, whose numerous Broadway credits include ‘Man Of La Mancha’, ‘Steel Pier’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Chronicle Of A Death Foretold’, ‘Kiss Of The Spider Woman’, ‘Victor/Victoria’.
Saundra Santiago is Elisenda, mother of the children who discover the mysterious creature. She just finished a 10-month run on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of NINE. Among her numerous stage credits are ‘A View From The Bridge’ and ‘Chronicle Of A Death Foretold’, both on Broadway, numerous regional and off-Broadway appearances and the title role in the national tour of EVITA. Her television credits include twins Jean and Joan Cusamano on ‘The Sopranos’ and Carmen Santos on ‘Guiding Light’.
The cast also includes Yolande Bavan, Robin De Jesús, Michael Earle, Mary Floyd, Danielle Larracuente, Selenis Leyva, Alfredo Narciso, Jessica Pimentel, Magaly Roig, Jaime Tirelli and Mark Elliot Wilson.
