LA’s Expo Comida Latina Delivered Authentic Hispanic Flavor

Portland, ME–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–October 25, 2006–As Expo Comida Latina’s 5th annual event wrapped at the Los Angeles Convention Center alongside All Asia Food and the International West Coast Seafood Show, attendees agreed that the action was just beginning. The respected Hispanic Food & Beverage trade show delivered on its promise as the premier showcase for goods from U.S. and Latin American-based companies and brought together buyers, retailers, distributors, vendors and restaurateurs and many in between.

Hundreds of exhibitors descended on Expo Comida Latina from across the United States and a host of Latin-American countries. In many ways, the Expo reconnected old friends and associates while bringing in new participants. Many exhibitors and attendees repeat the annual pilgrimage for insight into the Hispanic food and drink scene.

Chef LaLa and Martin Yan conducted an exciting Chino Latino cooking demonstration by fusing together various authentic Chinese and Latino dishes and creating new ones such as Fried Rice with carnitas and shrimp and a Pan Fried Noodle Steak Picado combo. To top it off, the Fish Mongers fish throwing exhibition was a thrilling opening for the show.

Whatever their focus, attendees found 2006 Expo Comida Latina a great resource. Costco Wholesale buyer, Kevin Jones, said, “There were a lot of new vendors and it seems like there’s going to be some opportunities … we’re always looking for new items, especially in the entrée category.”

“Everytime we participate in the show we get leads that help us compete in the market,” Javier Horacio von Sydow, president of Latin Specialties, Inc., said. The U.S. distributor of flavored ice pops and drinks from Mexico has exhibited at Expo Comida Latina since its inception in 2001. “At ECL, we learn what’s happening in the market, what others are doing; we expose ourselves to buyers and companies, and, we’ve seen monetary growth every year.”

Victoria Beverage has also exhibited its eight flavors of classic Mexican sodas at Expo Comida Latina since 2001. Packaged in long-neck glass bottles and liters, the classic Mexican soda has been around since 1927. Victoria Beverage particularly appealed to buyers looking for “the real thing in Mexican flavor.”

First-time exhibitor, EW Brand & Sons, was especially pleased. “We’re trying to develop a market in Peru and other countries in Central and South American and we’ve met a lot of people … we’ll see how we can do business together,” sales rep Batha Manzo Goehner said.

Looking ahead, Expo Comida Latina’s energy and business insight comes to New York City on November 14-15, 2006, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. For more information, please visit
