A private party sponsored by Johnnie Walker(R), People En Español and Jaguar to raise money for the National Council of La Raza’s (NCLR) Hurricane Relief Fund took place last night after the Latin Grammy Award Show. Hosted by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s Eduardo Xol and People En Español editor Richard Pérez-Feria, the event raised awareness for the plight of Latinos in the gulf states and raised more than $15,000 the specially created fund.

Ricardo Valdes, Multicultural Marketing Manager for California of Diageo North America and People En Español’s Pérez-Feria each presented $5,000 checks to NCLR. Board of Director and Executive Committee member, Antonia Jimenez, accepted on behalf of NCLR, the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States working to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans.

Among the guests were:

Additional Information: Chris Parson, V.P. of Scotch Marketing for Diageo stated, “Tonight, when we honor the achievement of Latin musicians, we also celebrate the resilience of the Latino community affected by the hurricanes and support them on their personal journeys to recovery”.

“People En Español is excited to partner with Johnnie Walker(R)to help raise awareness for this important cause,” said editor Pérez-Feria. “Our goal is to support all Latinos who have been deeply affected by these natural disasters.”

Through its network of more than 300 affiliated community-based organizations (CBOs), NCLR reaches millions of Hispanics each year in 41 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. No one knows for sure the actual number of Latinos affected by the storms. “NCLR’s Hurricane Relief Fund was created to help ensure that the hundreds of thousands of Latinos affected by the ravages of Katrina, Rita and Wilma were not left out in the cold. These folks who have worked hard, contributed significantly to our society, have paid taxes, and now find themselves without access to the resources being made available by the government and other organizations. I would like to thank Johnnie Walker(R), People En Español and Jaguar for sponsoring the magnificent event. You are helping so many hard-working Latino families who have lost everything get back on their feet and resume their pursuit of the American Dream,” stated Janet Morguia, NCLR President and CEO.

Many Latin Grammy nominees joined hundreds of music, TV, and movie personalities and their industry colleagues as they celebrated the achievements of Latinos in the entertainment business while helping to raise much needed funds. Celebrity DJ Carlos V aka C-LOS kept the guests dancing.
