LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Fox Sports en Espanol, the country’s most widely distributed sports network in the Spanish language pay television space, teamed up with Alianza de Futbol Hispano, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to the development and support of amateur Hispanic soccer, to provide soccer fans in the top ten markets of greatest U.S. Hispanic concentration with an exciting sports challenge within the national grassroots soccer tournament, called "El Sueno de Tu Vida Sears." Over 800,000 viewers tuned in, logged on, signed up for mobile alerts, and read about this unprecedented multi-platform program between its launch in June and the Fox Sports en Espanol airing of the final game on September 20.
"Unlike anything else in the market, ‘El Sueno de Tu Vida Sears’ is the first comprehensive grassroots program attempted by a network across the nation’s key markets, which created national media attention for sponsors at a local level," said David Sternberg, General Manager and Executive Vice President for Fox Sports International. "We knew this program would yield great results when we announced it during our Upfront in May, and are thrilled to have set this strong precedent in the industry by integrating a local initiative into our national footprint in an engaging and creative way."
"El Sueno de Tu Vida Sears" resulted as part of Fox Sports en Espanol’s partnership with Alianza de Futbol Hispano, and Sears, where an All-Star team was selected in each city comprised of the best amateur Hispanic players. For the first time on U.S. soil, premier scouts from the Mexican Federation of Futbol (Federacion Mexicana de Futbol Asociacion, A. C.) and scouts from top teams toured with Alianza and conducted open free tryouts in each city prior to selecting the Local All-Star team. The Alianza National Scouting Combine featured Mexico’s most accomplished and influential talent evaluators, including Cristobal Ortega, who became a legend with Club America; Jose Luis Arce, who influenced the Mexican Federation’s enormous recent accomplishments at the youth level (World Cup Champion of U17); and Jose Enrique Vaca, and Vinicio Bravo, influential scouts for Club America. Each local All-Star team hosted a Mexican "Primera Division A" game (professional reserve team) versus Socio Aguila (Club America’s reserve team), Club Tapatio (Chivas de Guadalajara’s reserve team), Academicos de Atlas (Atlas’ reserve team) and Pachuca (Club Pachuca’s development forces team) in the "Sears All-Star Game."
National Reach, Local Impact
With nearly seventy (70) days of soccer events, Fox Sports en Espanol reached over 115,000 people locally; 14,000 of which participated in the Verizon Wireless Youth Clinics, adult and youth tournaments and "El Sueno de Tu Vida Sears" tryouts. As a result of these community initiatives, Fox Sports en Espanol was able to help three tournament players secure placement on college teams in El Paso and Los Angeles. In addition, 18 players were invited to try out for professional Mexican and MLS (Major League Soccer) teams. "Through the ‘El Sueno de Tu Vida Sears’, open try-outs were held in each of the tour cities for local soccer aficionados to play in front of Mexico’s leading professional scouts, and become part of an All-Star Team that ultimately competed against top-ranked Tapatio (Chivas of Guadalajara’s First Division A team) held in Los Angeles on September 20," said Brad Rothenberg, President of BRC Group. "This performance, coupled with the national broadcast of the final game on Fox Sports en Espanol, gave unprecedented exposure to some of our nation’s best Hispanic amateur players."
"It’s an amazing and satisfying feeling when a community program such as this one is a success and we not only reach thousands of people, but also change their lives," said Sternberg.
Copa Alianza, the ten-market tournament now in its 5th consecutive year, has already begun planning for an even bigger execution next year. With more than $150,000 in prizes, and the opportunity to try-out for Mexico’s top professional scouts, the Copa Alianza tournament demonstrates Fox Sports en Español’s on-going commitment to the highest caliber of exciting soccer programming, and the Hispanic community which it serves.
In addition to sponsoring this important grassroots tournament, the leading sports cable network in the Spanish-language pay television space has donated a total of $10,000 to local charities dedicated to fostering the development of sports within the Hispanic youth, throughout the markets where the tournament was played, ensuring a robust partnership with the Hispanic community, and a continued focus on quality sports.
"Fox Sports en Espanol believes in the power of sports and education to change and transform lives, which is why it is a proud sponsor of a tournament that provides these opportunities to the Hispanic youth in our nation," stated Raul de Quesada, Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager for Fox Sports International.
