Hispanic Publishers’ Foundation Announces GMAC SmartEdge Winners


Washington, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–October 2, 2007–The National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation (NAHP Foundation) and GMAC Financial Services announced the recipients of the second GMAC SmartEdge Book Allowance program after an intensive review of hundreds of applications.

Twenty winners were chosen after a review of their academic credentials including grade point average, resume and a written essay. The applicants’ contributions to their communities through volunteering, community service, need and level of study were also taken into consideration.

“We had a large turn out of applicants for this program. We are thrilled to be able to reach outstanding traditional college age students as well as deserving adult learners with compelling need and exceptional promise,” said Eddie Escobedo, chairman of the Board of Directors of the NAHP Foundation.

SmartEdge by GMAC is an educational program designed to increase awareness and understanding about automotive financing, unlock the mysteries of personal credit and help consumers make informed financial decisions.

“The SmartEdge Book Allowance was designed to encourage higher education while promoting responsible personal finance habits,” said Barbara Stokel, executive vice president, GMAC North American Operations. “GMAC’s collaborative relationships with community leaders and organizations like the NAHP Foundation are key to our efforts in successfully promoting financial literacy and offering all consumers a tool for taking control of their financial lives.”

The GMAC SmartEdge Book Allowance program is designed to assist students with the cost of college textbooks. The twenty awards, each for $500, will be given to the following students from across the nation:
