New York, NY–(PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE) –February 8, 2008– On the heels of its acclaimed theatrical release, the gripping film Liberty Kid will make its network television debut on the Spanish-language cable channel HBO Latino on Thursday, February 28 at 10 PM EST, with a second airing on Friday, February 29 at 11 PM EST. The English-language movie will be dubbed in Spanish.

Liberty Kid follows two friends from Brooklyn whose lives veer in vastly different directions. After losing their jobs on Liberty Island due to 9/11, Tico (Kareem Savinon) is drawn to the easy money of drug-dealing while Derrick (Al Thompson) is persuaded to fight in Iraq.

Written and directed by Ilya Chaiken (Margarita Happy Hour), Liberty Kid won Best Feature at the 2007 New York International Latino Film Festival and was selected as a Critics’ Pick by both The New York Times and New York magazine this January.

“We are thrilled that a movie as truly independent as this one has been able to achieve such incredible critical attention,” says Chaiken. “We are also thankful that our broadcast on HBO Latino will allow us to reach such a wide and crucial audience. We believe that the story and characters of Liberty Kid will resonate with Latino viewers across the nation.”

“We pride ourselves in being a long time supporter of the Latino entertainment community, which continues to expand and redefine itself on the screen,” says Lucinda Martinez-Desir, vice president, Market Development at HBO. “Liberty Kid represents yet another element of the spectrum of Latino experiences tied closely with life in the U.S.”

Liberty Kid airs on HBO Latino as one of the 2008 Estrenos Latinos, with new programming launching in the summer including Mandrake, a comedic detective series and Sexo Urbano, an insider tell-all about Latin America’s red-light districts.
