Home Media Retailing Announces First-Ever Latin DVD Award Winners


West Hollywood, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–April 7, 2005–One of Penelope Cruz’s most critically acclaimed films, from renowned Spanish director Fernando Trueba, was named best of show at the first-ever Latin DVD Awards, presented April 5 in West Hollywood.

“La Nina de Tus Ojos,” distributed by Lolafilms/Ventura Entertainment, was among six Latin DVDs honored at the awards, established by Home Media Retailing magazine to recognize achievements in the rapidly growing Spanish-language DVD market.

Other winners, selected by a panel of Latin film aficionados administered by Home Media Retailing, are:

— Best Theatrical DVD – “El Callejón de Los Milagros,” Venevision International

— Best Nontheatrical DVD – “Yank Tanks,” Vanguard Cinema

— Best U.S. Production – “By the Sea,” Desert Mountain Media

— Best Children’s DVD – “Los Tres Reyes Magos,” Desert Mountain Media

— Best Special Features/Bonus Materials – “A Day Without a Mexican,” Xenon Pictures/Televisa Cine

The winners were chosen from more than two dozen entries submitted by suppliers, producers and distributors of Spanish-language DVDs. All titles released in calendar 2004 were eligible.

The Latin DVD Awards were part of DVD En Español 2: The Second Annual Latino Home Entertainment Conference, produced by Home Media Retailing in cooperation with DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and The Hollywood Reporter. The conference attracted more than 200 attendees, including top executives with such key studios as Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Warner Home Video and Ventura Entertainment and Latin retail buyers with Blockbuster Inc., Hollywood Entertainment Corp., Tower Records and Video, and other major retailers.
